LONNIE HARVEY

My monoprints are scenes painted from nature; landscapes, still lifes, and organic forms that are simple yet contain complexities of color and texture much like those often overlooked in the natural world. I am influenced by the places I have visited, inspired not only by the raw natural beauty but also the emotional responses they can elicit. Many of my images come from my own backyard, from the trees that surround my house, from my walks through the woods. In my prints, each tree possesses its own personality. They can emerge intertwined in groups or individual “portraits”. I try to approach each work as if putting together a jigsaw puzzle; different components are fitted together to produce a final result that is exciting and not always predictable!

Lonnie has been creating monoprints for over twenty-five years. She studied art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She moved to the Boston area in 1990, and discovered her love for monoprints after taking classes at the DeCordova Museum School.  Her studio is located at the Umbrella Community Arts Center in Concord, MA.
