JONATHAN MACADAM

My current body of work explores beauty in our modern age. These paintings for the most part are in the tradition of the realist painters of the 19th century. I am drawn to find the places that are overlooked; the beauty that might be glimpsed from a car window. I hope to tempt the viewer into the imagination where there is motion, ambiguity, and memory.

For as long as I can remember I have been drawn to the way the sky above plays on the landscape below. I want to bring these two together so that they are intertwined; the heavenly and the earthly together as one. I hope to discover for myself and share the strange magic that I see in the world around us. I am a witness to this world. I enjoy what I see by bringing others to see it too.

Born in London, Jon MacAdam came to the US to study, and he carried out his MFA at Gordon College in Wenham, MA.

Jon's career as an artist (an oil painter) has included shows in many galleries in Massachusetts (including the Powers Gallery in Acton, Erlick Gallery in Marblehead, Three Stones Gallery in West Concord, Hoorn-Ashby and Cavaier galleries in Nantucket).... and also galleries in New York (including OK Harris and Mahlstedt). As a result of this his work is in many collections, both corporate and private. His artwork has also appeared in many publications, including Cottage Living, the Pottery Barn blog and House Beautiful.

Jon lives and works in Leominster MA with his wife and young family.
